January 2026 – Music Moments

Happy New Year! Well… did you survive 2025?

While our family came out mostly unscathed, far too many family members and friends experienced a truly difficult year. As we turn the page to a new year, I’m deeply thankful for the sense of hope January brings — or at least the opportunity to try to feel hopeful about what’s ahead.

At Little Kiddos Music Academy, January is all about fresh starts, routines, and understanding time — and there is no better way to explore those concepts than through preschool music classes.

Exploring Time & Routines Through Music in January

January is the perfect month to introduce or reinforce concepts like:

  • Days of the week
  • Months of the year
  • Seasons and winter themes
  • Classroom routines and transitions

In our preschool music classes, we use familiar melodies, movement, and simple instruments to help children learn naturally through play.

Favorite Days of the Week Songs for Preschoolers

🎵 Days of the Week (Addams Family)

This catchy, memorable tune works perfectly with rhythm sticks and helps preschoolers internalize the weekly routine through repetition and beat.

🎵 Days of the Week (Alouette)

Upbeat, fun, and spunky — we love pairing this song with egg shakers for hands-on learning and movement.

Months of the Year Songs for Preschool Music Classes

🎵 Months of the Year (Clementine)

A fantastic song for teaching the months of the year using egg shakers or any classroom instrument. Simple, effective, and engaging for young learners.

🎵 Months of the Year (Alouette)

I’ll admit — I still sing this one to myself when counting how many months away a future event is. It’s hands-down my favorite months song.

Winter-Themed Preschool Movement Songs

🎵 All Winter Long (The Wheels on the Bus)

It’s still winter, and this song is always a huge hit in January music classes.

🎵 Everybody, Move With Me (Skip to My Lou)

When winter wiggles strike, this song gets preschoolers moving and resets the room fast.

January at Little Kiddos Music Academy

January is a time for hope, rhythm, routines, and connection — and music helps make all of it feel just a little lighter.

Whether we’re shaking eggs, tapping rhythm sticks, or listening quietly together, our preschool music classes help children grow socially, emotionally, and musically — one song at a time.

🎶 Here’s to a hopeful new year and a joyful January of music. 🎶Now, for listening suggestions for ears of all ages!

Music Appreciation for FOR EARS OF ALL AGES:

January is also a beautiful time to slow down and focus on listening skills and music appreciation.

🎧 Holberg Suite – Edvard Grieg

One of my personal favorites, this light, dancing piece is perfect for starting the year with joy and imagination.

🎧 Symphony No. 1 in E Minor – Florence Price

This is one of my favorite works for encouraging music appreciation in children.
Not only is it rich with imaginative sound, but it also holds incredible historical significance as the first symphony by a Black female composer performed by a major U.S. orchestra.

🎧 Chega De Saudade – Tom Jobim

Winter blues creeping in? Bossa Nova brings chill, uplifting vibes — like a hot sunny day and a cool breeze (but for your ears)!
