One music class for all ages?! Yep!

I absolutely love teaching multi-age early childhood music classes! I’ve done them for years, and in my opinion, they are absolutely the way to go! I’m THRILLED to not only be relaunching in-person Little Kiddos Music classes in Summer 2025 but am also introducing an exciting new multi-age approach!

When it comes to preschool music classes, there are two main structures—I’ve done both. One option is age-specific classes (for example, grouping 2-3-year-olds together), and the other is multi-age groups (which, in my experience, typically include ages 2-6, though it can work with ages 1-6 if there are enough helping grown-ups). While age-specific groups allow for activities tailored to a particular developmental stage, I firmly believe the benefits of multi-age classes far outweigh this.

In my classes, I include tons of repetition, instruction, and constant modeling of actions. This allows every child to participate at their own level—watching, joining in as they’re able, or simply absorbing the experience visually and aurally.

I also love the dynamic that older (but still little!) kiddos bring to the group. They naturally model for the youngest ones, building their own confidence while providing invaluable peer learning for the little ones. The older kids quickly pick up motions and lyrics, while the younger ones soak it all in, participating in whatever way they can. It’s amazing to watch—it’s my favorite! And time and time again, parents tell me their child (the one that didn’t seem to participate, didn’t seem to be getting much out of it…) starts humming melodies in the car immediately after or taps out rhythms later on. It’s such a blessing to plant these musical seeds to all ages.

And this year, I’m especially excited to introduce a whole new age group into our multi-age classes…

INTERGENERATIONAL MUSIC CLASSES! 🎶

We’re adding GRANDfriends to our kiddo/grown-up classes! These special classes will be held at assisted living communities, where residents will join in the music-making magic.

So much of what we do at Little Kiddos Music Academy offers massive benefits to our GRANDfriends as well:

  • Singing and repeating lyrics set to familiar melodies supports memory and cognitive function.
  • Playing instruments encourages gentle movement, maintains grip strength, and promotes physical wellness.
  • Making music in a group setting fosters social connection and emotional well-being.
  • Music is an instant mood booster!
  • Having visitors – especially the littlest and youngest – combats loneliness and isolation.

I. Cannot. Wait. It’s a win-win-win!
